THE Lae Yacht Club Table Tennis pennants has progressed well over the last four rounds with six teams taking part in the competition in the Morobe capital.
The competition is scheduled to run for eight weeks with the top-four teams to qualify for the finals at the end of round five.
Competition coordinator Kevin Howard told The National that the teams were Warrior Tank Wantoks, Atlas Steelers, Relax Footwear Renegades, Hot Toti Teamsters, Two and a Half Men, and Raumai 18 Runabouts.
The competition is played between 6.30pm and 9pm every Wednesday night.
Howard said they started with training sessions earlier this month but many players decided that they should have a formal competition and so they started one as a trial.
He said they had three players in each team and with a match each week consisting of four single rubbers and one double rubber.
Howard said all teams were encouraged to field one junior player as the competition wanted to encourage junior development.
“We’re using this first competition as a trial and at the end of week five, the top-four teams will qualify for the finals.
“In week six, the semifinals will be played with the winners advancing to the grand final in week seven.”
