Lae’s Defence Force officers make music not war

THE PNG Defence Force combat engineers at Igam Barracks in Lae secured first place in the song and second place in string band competition during lead-up activities to the Engineering Battalion’s 42nd anniversary celebrations on Sept 1.
The choir song from Bravo Company was selected as the core song for the engineering battalion under commandership of Lt Col Bruno Malau after 42 years of their existence to distinguish themselves as Sappers.
The song was selected through a choir competition theme battle of the voices which started on Aug 2 involving four units.
From the performances, Alpha company fell out from the top three as Bravo, Battalion headquarters and Support unit proceeded to battle out the finals on Aug 9, which coincided with the string band competition. At the finals, the refined version of Bravo Company’s song was selected as the core song for engineering soldiers in Igam last Thursday.
Meanwhile, the winner for the string band competition was RC Youths, followed by Bravo Company.
The Alpha and Support Company were third and fourth respectively.
