A GRADE 10 student who wrote about her mum as her role model is one of the two winners of  the Westpac Women’s Educational Grant essay competition this year.
Jean Lafanama, from Goroka Secondary School in Eastern Highlands, was awarded her K9,000 school fee grant last Thursday in front of her classmates, teachers and school administration by the Westpac Bank Goroka branch manager Kavi Nenikuro.
The competition was run by Westpac last year to give girls in secondary schools throughout the country an opportunity to express themselves by writing about their ideal woman role model.
Jean was able to express well her role model, none other than her loving mother, Rose.
Her essay was one of the two chosen  by the judges out of many other entrants.  Goroka Secondary school administration congratulated Lafanama for winning a national competition and thanked Westpac for running such academic activities which complimented classroom learning.
Lafanama thanked Westpac for realising women’s role in the community and supporting it not only in this writing competition but other programmes involving women as well.
She also thanked her mum and dad for their continuous support in her education.
