GOROKA Lahanis players and official received their Covid-19 vaccination in the Eastern Highlands capital on Friday.
Franchise owner Simon Sia said getting vaccinated was important to protect players and officials while competing in the 2021 Digicel Cup season.
“I am happy to see our players getting vaccinated because Covid-19 has already killed millions of people around the world,” he said.
“Our players and officials must be free of Covid-19 to stay protected.”
Sia said getting vaccinated was a requirement of the PNG National Rugby League Competition to participate in the competition.
He said the Lahanis were fortunate to get the vaccine.
“I thank the players, officials and health workers, who are rolling out the vaccination for the team,” Sia said.
Lahanis franchise manager Tom Pori said they had mixed reactions about the vaccination but after ample awareness, the team had agreed to receive the jab.
“It is important to get vaccinated,” he said.
“I thank the competition management and our franchise owner Simon Sia for their understanding and support to get the Lahanis players and officials vaccinated.”
Pori was the first to take the jab followed by assistant coach David Koyafo, team manager Benji Filele, head coach Gonzella Urakusie and the players.
Sr Elos David administered the vaccine and assured the Lahanis that it was safe to get vaccinated and protect themselves from the virus.
