ELEX Lahara 600’s mixed team in the Motu-Koita West Netball competition are primed for their grand final debut following a four-year absence in the Hanuabada association.
Lahara captain Rose Sauka told The National that it was an all-round effort from their players and sponsors to get the club back in the competition and performing consistently throughout the 2019-2020 season.
“Our sponsors Peter Rex and his wife Lulu were the ones who got behind the club and drove us to where we are now,” she said.
“We know it’s going to be a really tough week ahead.
“In the past, it was Peter’s parents who were the ones to register the club and get us organised and it’s really touching to see him come in and take over from them.
“It’s a big relief not only for us but for our people who have been part of this competition for some time.
“We’ve all been committed and tried our best since day one and the results have shown for the mixed side.
“We’re not about to let that go easily when we head into the final.
“Whatever the challenges that we all faced throughout the season, we were always together to help each other get the small things right on the court.
“So we are now prepared.”
Sauka said the competition was a much-needed avenue for young talents to progress outside of the village.
“The officials and administration have a done great job this season and we’re just happy to be a part of it all,” she said.
“Hopefully, we can get a few of our younger players to compete in bigger teams outside.”
