PEOPLE affected by a landslide at Lamindi village in Tambul, Western Highlands, received more than K230,000 last week from the National Disaster Office to help rebuild their lives.
The National Disaster Office initially committed K250,000 for the affected but after meeting other expenses, the Tambul-Nebilyer development authority (DDA) delivered a cheque for K230,720.
The cheque was presented to the affected families, some of whom had lost loved ones, homes and gardens, by DDA chief executive Philip Talpa and his deputy Immanuel Kewa.
The funds would be used on the relocation exercise.
The landslide on March 21, killed 12 people, all from Lamindi village, as well as destroying their homes and property.
The National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) gave K200,000 for relief supplies following the landlside.
Talpa thanked the National Disaster Office for its assistance and acknowledged NGCB for the earlier donation.
Kewa said the recovery would take time but he was grateful that state agencies had come into to assist. With natural disasters becoming common, he urged the people to take precautions and be aware of the weather and its impact on the land.
Kewa thanked MP Win Bakri Daki for his efforts.
