FARMERS from Central currently selling fresh garden produce at the Boroko Market in Port Moresby will not be moved away as originally planned by the National Capital District Commission (NCDC).
NCDC market division planning supervisor Rex Kuman said the vendors were to be moved to the Lareva Market in Hohola.
Kuman said that plans to develop the Lareva Market into a wholesale centre for Central farmers had been put on hold.
He said the Central farmers had requested to stay at the Boroko Market.
Kuman met with the farmers last December to discuss their move to Lareva and Wildlife markets.
He said at the meeting that the markets would be for wholesalers only.
The farmers said they felt safe at Boroko and wanted to remain there.
They previously had been selling at the Gordon Market.
Kuman said the Lareva Market would be developed into a fresh produce retail market with stalls for selling manufactured goods.
Vendors at the Hohola bus stop will be moved to Lareva because they were causing congestion and affecting flow of traffic.
