Lau banking on home advantage this weekend

PNG Hunters halfback Joshua Lau is confident his team can bounce back with a win in front of the home crowd when they face the Sunshine Coast Falcons on Saturday.
Lau’s versatility has been a boon for the side having filled in across several positions in the back line since making his debut last year.
Being coach Paul Aiton’s current option in the No.7 jersey, Lau’s playmaking and game management has been put to the test and the utility said as first receiver he aimed to be consistent and provide the team the direction it needed.
The Lau-Komati halves combination impressed in the season opener against Wynnum-Manly but did not have as much success in their first away fixture.
Lau conceded that building a rapport with Komati would take a little time but the signs were there that both could spark the Hunters attack.
He was also candid with his halves experience saying it was not a part of the field he had played his senior football in.
“I’ve played more games at centre and wing but to be honest I’ve enjoyed playing at halfback,” Lau said when describing his familiarity with the halfback role.
Lau hinted that his stint in the seven could be temporary.
“Jamie Mavoko (who was the first choice No.7 last year) was a bit sick in the preseason games and the coach coached asked me step in. I’ve played a couple of games at halfback now it’s good; I just want to give it my all and produce results for the team.”
Lau said missed tackles and errors in the Capras game cost them, however he said they could put that all behind them with a strong performance and a win on Saturday.
“We got a good win in round one but last week was not the kind of performance we wanted.
“Mistakes were our biggest enemy, we let ourselves down and the result spoke for itself. We’ve talked about it in training this week and we want to get it right in the game against Falcons.
“We know we are playing in front of our fans, friends and families so we want to make them happy.”
