A MAN has been arrested and charged in Lae over a drink driving incident that took place in Rabaul more than three years ago.
Boniface Jack, 38, of Kol village, Jiwaka, is alleged to have been driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol along the Warangoi road in Rabaul, East New Britain, on April, 2016, when he hit and injured nine people.
Jack was able to leave the province before the matter proceeded to court and settled in Lae where he found work and lived. He was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence and causing grievous bodily harm by Lae police. East New Britain police commander Insp Joseph Tabali said the complainants pursued the case and demanded Jack be made to answer for his actions.
Tabali said he was informed that Jack was in Lae so he asked Lae police to assist in his investigations.
He said Jack was identified by the appointed case officer, who flew in from Kokopo to make the arrest, and the suspect had been detained by Lae police.
He said Jack was arrested and charged under section 42 (2) of the Road Traffic Act as amended and was refused bail and would appear in court today.
