Leaders take back districts, provinces

Letters

TAKING back districts and provinces is paramount to match the government’s slogan to “Take Back PNG”.
Members of parliament and governors – whether in the government or opposition – should go back to their respective districts and provinces to take this country forward.
Stop the petty politics in parliament and go back and clean up the districts and provinces.
Stop the nonsense preached on mainstream media and social media platforms such as the Facebook.
A good example would be the stagnant Southern Highlands Provincial administration and its public servants.
In the past 20 or so years, the administrative appointment system has been compromised, orchestrated by those entrusted with authoritative powers to install transparency and accountability.
In essence these appointments have defied the moral and ethical norms that govern the appointments of senior executives.
Appointments were often meddled and executed in direct defiance to the government’s general orders.
Southern Highlands has witnessed a high turnover of its provincial administrators post.
Within a time span of 10 years, the province witnessed the appointment of four different administrators.
Squandering of public funds was rife as witnessed now where the province is in dire needs of funds after an earthquake battered the province.
The absence of a permanently appointed provincial administrator has led to the collapse in service delivery.
The Auditor-General’s Office and the Department of Personnel Management as mandated by law should audit the province’s books.
Audit, investigation and stability is needed. Prove critics wrong in the name of taking back PNG.

  • If you don’t know, All appointment in SH is done by the governor Powi so that they will always support him to take his seat. Most of them are uneducated and inexperience, the province therefore gone backward and its shameful thing.
All the provincial government should provide annual report, to see progress. especially infrastructure development with inclusion of audited and certified financial statement.
