Leadership and the wise men

Letters

SUNDAY, Jan 7, 2018: The Gospel was on visit of the Magi.
It was about three kings from the Orient who had been watching signs of the times.
When a star appeared, they knew a king was born, so they went to Jerusalem and enquired where the new king was born.
King Herod upon hearing the news was jealous.
He wanted to kill the child Jesus.
He lied that he would visit the new king and pay homage.
Instead he plotted to kill Jesus Christ.
We are made to see that powers that be will be jealous of light.
Many leaders in PNG are challenged to review their leadership against three leaders: Joseph who was the guardian of Jesus and Mary; the three Magi; and King Herod.
Which of the three characters defines their leadership?
Joseph the wise guardian?
The Magi who took another route?
Or King Herod who was jealous and plotted murder?
We pray our leaders might be like Joseph and the Magi and praise God for not listening to the Herodian spirit of jealousy, anger and murder.
