NATIONAL Rugby League development Brian Rowe ended a three-day training programme for local officers last Thursday.

The sessions were part of the 2016 NRL PNG conference held annually at the beginning of the year.

PNG NRL league development officers around the country were flown to Port Moresby for the conference. The sessions also involved PNGRFL personnel.

Rowe said the focus of the session was to build capacity for NRL staff from PNG to deliver rugby league community programmes and activities such as the League Bilong Laif and other initiatives funded by the Australian government.

He said the NRL game development officers would work closely with their PNG counterparts to enhance their knowledge to effectively deliver the programmes.

“We want to make sure that the PNG NRL game development officers are up-skilled to carry out the jobs,” Rowe said.

He said the NRL’s efforts in other Pacific Islands nations as well.

“The programme is targeted for the whole community regardless of the gender and ability.”

Southern region game development officer Kila Vere said the training was of great benefit and welcomed the inclusion of PNGRFL officers in the sessions.
