Leave fare fiasco

Letters

THIS is a letter to the Education Department and its agencies handling teachers’ recreational leave fares.
The leave fare is an entitlement.
Entitlement, as defined in an Oxford dictionary, is a right to something or a legal obligation an organisation (in this case the government) to make payment.
Every teacher on leave is entitled to leave fare payment.
Payments made in week two or three of the school holidays do not reflect the definition of the entitlement because during that time all forms of transportation have been fully booked, forcing teachers and their families to abandon plans to visit loved ones in the village. This is an injustice.
Year in and year out teachers face the same problem with their leave fare and no one seems to care.
It shows incompetence and laziness on the part of those tasked to look after this payment.
The 10 per cent payment to service providers or the travel agents is nonsense. How can a teacher make payments for travel after the 10 per cent is deducted? He or she has no choice but to pay the balance from his or her own pocket or abandon the plan to go home. It is absurd.
Is the government aware that huge deductions over the years have forced many teachers not to go home? What is the purpose for those unexplained deductions?
