Let fireworks light up New Year not burn down your house

PNG Fire Service Chief Bill Roo has cautioned the public to check all fireworks and firecrackers before buying them.
Roo said some fireworks and firecrackers were fake and counterfeit and could cause or start fires in homes.
“Some fireworks are meant to be used in wide open spaces and not where houses are all lined up,” he said. “People purchasing fireworks and crackers must check the products and also read the instructions to check if the fireworks can be used in communities or in open spaces only.”
Roo also called on parents and guardians to supervise their children who were planning to use fireworks and firecrackers for New Year celebrations.
He thanked the public for celebrating a trouble-free Christmas.
