A WORLD church leader has called on the leaders of Papua New Guinea to carry out their duties guided by the Word of God.
Pastor Ted Wilson, the president of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church general conference, is visiting the country with his wife Susan for more than two weeks to attend a big evangelical event-PNG for Christ.
They will fly to Mt Hagen today, and then to Minj where he will be preaching every night.
Prime Minister James Marape is expected to join him there.
Wilson met Speaker Job Pomat at Parliament House yesterday, saying leaders were given their roles by God.
He said those given the responsibility to lead God’s people on Earth were representatives of Heaven, and that should be taken seriously.
“Every one of you, regardless of what denomination you are affiliated with, (God) is asking you to function not just in a political manner but in a God-ordained (way) to help the people of PNG,” he said.
Marape said that it was Pastor Wilson’s second visit to Parliament and hoped it would not be the last.
Marape, Pomat and others MPs are members of the SDA church.
President of the South Pacific Division of the SDA Glenn Townend said Pastor Wilson’s main purpose here was to preach the word of God and encourage the SDA congregation to help the country in every area including health, education and community development.
There are more than 300 overseas preachers arriving too.
“It is the first time for the SDA church in the country to host such big event,” he said.
PNG Union Mission of SDA president Pastor Malachi Yani said the evangelical event was not only for SDA church members but also for everyone else.
