FORMER National Soccer League coach Pius Letenge has been appointed as the new Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) general secretary after Dimirit Mileng’s term had expired in June.
The former Welgris coach said he was keen on working with PNGFA and its stakeholders to develop football nationwide.
“This role really suits my skills and knowledge of football, especially around technical areas,” Letenge said.
“I look forward to working with member-association presidents and all our stakeholders.
“If there’s an issue you want to raise, please suggest a solution and we’ll work together to address it.
“My plan is to see more football being played in all four regions of the country.
“I believe that is in line with PNGFA’s vision.
“I am also looking at upgrading some of our facilities to improve our competitions.
“We want to market the sport and increase its following.
“There is still a lot of work to be done and we will not stop, we will get there.”
Mileng said he had enjoyed his term in office.
“I’ve had some challenges in the role but I enjoyed my job,” he said.
“But now it’s time for a new captain to take the lead so that the ship continues to sail.” PNGFA president John Kapi Natto said Letenge had been endorsed upon the Oceania Football Confederation’s recommendation.
“The position was advertised on June 20 and five applicants were shortlisted,” he said.
“I did not take part in the process because I know all the applicants.
“I want to thank caretaker administrator Dan Kakaraya who has done a great job in ensuring a smooth transition of the post.”
