LETTERS IN BRIEF

Chinese aid:
I thank Chinese President Xi Jinping, his government and people for their massive support and assistance in terms of both financial and material aid to Papua New Guinea. There have been reports of Chinese scholarships, multi-million kina aid funding, schools, hospitals, bridges, roads, wharves and ports. Here in Port Moresby, we have CCTV surveillance cameras, traffic lights, bus stops and roads. Thank you China.

Super concern:
I am saddened by the fact that the government still owes money to public servants through unpaid Nambawan Super contributions. Some people waited so long they have died, but the State contribution to their retirement fund remains unpaid. These people have worked hard and served the country for years and certainly deserve to have their superannuation funds paid into their account. But many have died and lost everything.

Unfair charge:
This is in regards to the school fee refund. Note that some charges are unreasonable. For example, I applied to a training institute in NCD for short courses. I paid my deposit and waited for classes to start but the classes were cancelled. I had no choice but to withdraw. It took me two months to get my money back but the institute deducted a massive 25 per cent for the use of their account for transactions. They failed to offer the courses but took my money.

Traffic-light vendors:
Some vendors are back at traffic light junctions with their trade. Not only is it dangerous for them to be moving in between vehicles with their store or garden items,it doesn’t look good too. Some of us have a soft spot for them, especially the children, but if we continue to buy
from them, then we will continue to encourage them to keep coming back. If we stop buying, they’ll go away.
