Lewas on collision course with Samoa

THE City Pharmacy PNG Lewas and Samoa are the only undefeated sides at the 2019 International Cricket Councils Women’s Qualifier – East Asia Pacific in Port Vila, Vanuatu after the third round of T20 games yesterday.
The Lewas and arch-rivals Samoa both cruised to victory in their matches to set up a high stakes final match today.
There will be plenty to play for as the winning team will qualify for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier to be held in Scotland later this year, and also for the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier to be held in 2020.
The match of the day was undoubtedly between Indonesia and tournament hosts Vanuatu, who stormed home to victory in front of a bursting home crowd.
PNG continued to showcase why they are the team to beat this tournament, passing Japan’s score with 10 wickets in hand.
Lewas captain Kaia Arua showed her crafty talents spinning her way to five wickets and being awarded player of the match (5 for 7).
Earlier in the day, Japan bounced back from a rocky start to post a very competitive score of 118/9 from their 20 overs against FijiJapan’s score proved to be too big a task for Fiji, who finished the innings at 78/8.
In the other morning match, Samoa defeated Vanuatu by eight wickets, captain Regina Lill’i continued her strong form with another unbeaten knock (37 off 44 balls) and Lagi Telea (3 for 9) showed why she is a bowler to watch.
The stage is set for an enthralling final day with plenty to play for in Port Vila, which will cap off what has been a captivating tournament.
Vanuatu 58 (Telea 3-9) defeated by Samoa 59/2 (Lili’i 37 not out). Samoa won by 8 wickets.
Japan 118/9 Fiji 87/8. Japan won by 31 runs.

Indonesia 62 (Tastuki 3-9) Vanuatu 63/6 (Eduard 3-9). Vanuatu won by 4 wickets.
