Lewas pair Tau, Jimmy shine for Brisbane side

PAPUA New Guinea Lewas pair Brenda Tau and Sibona Jimmy playing for the Ipswich Hornets in the Brisbane women’s first-grade competition, starred in their opening match against Wynnum Redlands over the weekend.
Jimmy opened the batting and made a solid 16 but it was Tau’s batting that dominated the game making her first 100, including 12 boundaries, off 132 balls.
Batting with control, she shared a 108-run partnership with Shaque Frisk (42) and was eventually dismissed in the 48th over. The Hornets finishing on 6/246 off their 50 overs.
Wynnum/Redlands lost their first wicket in the second over with Jimmy bowling Summer Rose Briskey for four and they lost regular wickets thereafter.
Sibona finishing with fantastic figures of 5/22 (10), including five of the top six batswomen and had four maiden overs in her spell.
It was only Wynnum Redlands keeper Jessica Bird who showed any resistance to Jimmy’s bowling, making an impressive 79 (72) but was eventually run out.
The Hornets knocked over their opponents in the 43rd over for a 61-run win.
