Licence may determine beneficiaries

PETROLEUM and Energy Minister Kerenga Kua says a petroleum development licence (PDL) boundary determines who should be beneficiaries in the Papua LNG gas project in Gulf.
He was responding to questions from Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu in Parliament yesterday that his province (Eastern Highlands) and Chimbu had an interest with regards to land boundaries, entitlements and landowner determinations in the project area.
Kua said a series of preliminary work had been done, but developer Total was yet to present it to the Petroleum Department for vetting.
He said he was aware that the Chimbu governor had also written to the minister’s office regarding land boundaries, entitlements and landowner determination to look at their interest.
“In the same way, the Eastern Highlands governor has also written to the minister’s office, and both letters were referred to the Department of Petroleum and also to Total,”Kua said.
“This is because before the minister signs off the ministerial determination, the developer must work on it, then present it to the department to vet and then the minister signs off the ministerial determination.”

  • So when is that going to happen..?? Next year or after the 2022 elections or 10 years time??? Mind you Governors of EHP & CP including GP & CP. We don’t really know when the Papua LNG project will ever start!

  • We do not know when the project will start. But we know who is the principal LO of the resources site. It is sitting on Pawaya land and more specifically the Jaoho clan land. The land belongs to the Neripe family. The government and the developer need to be honest to themselves and the people of PNG. You cannot fabricate ownership. The truth will defeat all con and lies. There is no rocket science in this matter. God has made this simple and straight forward.
