Lighting up Wewak

Letters

AT last we are seeing tangible developments taking place in our township of Wewak in East Sepik.
Days ago, sections of the town road between Mobil and town was lit up. The lights that adorn the streets looked something more like driving through Ela Beach or Waigani Drive in Port Moresby.
Many thanks to the current district and local leadership in Wewak, especially our young local MP Stanley Muts Samban and his town mayor John Nurwes, and other members of the district and town development authorities.
This is what Wewak town needs, and we are getting it from our MP and his team of senior servants. Not only are the lights shining bright but the whole township is changing with the ongoing improvement and beautification programmes. Roads are being improved and sealed, deteriorating bridges would soon be and/or replaced and sections that needed sealing would see work taking place.
Past provincial and electoral leaders had focused on developing Papua New Guinea, with fewer thoughts on what we had always call home.
The challenge now is back to residents, landowners and people of Wewak town to ensure these developments do not go to waste.
Over the years growing up in Wewak, we have seen many developments go down the drain, simply because of our no-care attitude. Our behaviors are even worse. We do not value anything but, obviously, this has now changed. And, we hope it stays that way.
Many of our own local boys and girls have come out of Wewak to go on to develop other towns, cities and provinces, forgetting that we have a home that we will all return to one day.
Well, at least, Samban had seen the other side of the coin and is doing something with the support of his town mayor and their public servants.
Keep up your good work and the rewards will be enormous.
