Lihir company acquires Brisbane property

A PAPUA New Guinea company has purchased a prime property in the centre of an Australian city for its landowner shareholders.
Mineral Resources Lihir Capital, from New Ireland province, bought the Brisbane property, Flight Centre House, for A$38 million, Radio Australia reported yesterday.
The capital group is owned by landowning villagers from Lihir Island who are registered members of the Lihir Mining Area Landowners Association.
Business development manager Kible Bonga told Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat programme that it was a dream come true for the 14,000 landowners who would benefit after the Lihir gold mine closes.
He said the deal in the Brisbane central business district was their third property investment.
