Limestone ownership

Letters

I MAKE reference to a report on page 38 of The National’s Business section (Sept 26) in which Commerce and Industry Minister and Chuave MP Wera Mori commented on the Simbu Limestone project.
The Simbu Provincial Government (SPG) is a major financier and equal partner in the project.
The Simbu Limestone Development Corporation Ltd (SLDCL) is a holding company of the provincial government which wholly owns it.
The national Government does not have a feasibility study report of the project so where did the minister get his copy from?
What was presented is a desktop study and not a proper feasibility study report.
The landowners are an integral partner in this project and their interest and rights must be respected and protected at all times, and therefore our interest takes precedence over any other party’s interest.
We need our ILGs to be registered first before any work starts on our land. No ILG registration means no work on our customary land.
The purchase of heavy equipment and machinery for the project is welcome news but first the minister and his team need to clarify the ownership and maintenance of those equipment as most of us are semi-literate villagers.
We, the landowners, stand united and call on Chimbu Governor Michael Dua and the Provincial Administrator Joe Kunda on behalf of our partner the provincial government to please assist in facilitating the completion of the feasibility study so a final report can be presented to the State to secure good investors for the project.
