Link PNG has resumed services to Wapenamanda Airport in Enga.
Flight PX 990 arrived to a ceremony at Wapenamanda on Sunday, witnessed by Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, Link PNG general manager Alex Kia and staff.
Link PNG, a subsidiary of Air Niugini, suspended services to Wapenamanda in September 2019, to allow for major upgrade work to the runway.
The runway upgrade was completed recently with Link PNG restoring its services.
Kia acknowledged Sir Peter and the Enga government for their continuous support towards Link PNG.
“The governor has been supportive of this service for a very long time,” Kia said.
“We have now resumed services with up to three flights per week, however if there is demand, we may further increase the number of flights to Wapenamanda.”
Sir Peter said the people would no longer need to travel to Mt Hagen to catch flights. “You do not have to risk your lives on the road.”
