LINK PNG, a subsidiary of Air Niugini welcomed its second 76-seat Q402 aircraft into Port Moresby last Thursday.
It adds to the Link PNG fleet operation following the arrival of the first aircraft in January.
It has almost 50 per cent more passenger capacity than Link PNG’s Dash-8 aircraft and operates at almost the same speed.
It is also capable of flying into smaller airports that the Fokker jets cannot service.
The aircraft will be used mostly on the Rabaul sector during the peak period.
Tokua airport is currently undergoing urgent runway maintenance work by the National Airports Corporation.
Thus, the runway length has been temporarily shortened.
Air Niugini flights to and from Tokua are using the Dash-8 aircraft.
Link PNG expects the new aircraft to service longer routes which the Dash-8 fleet is unable to reach.
