A CANDIDATE for the Anglimp local level government president’s position in Jiwaka has opposed the appointment of council managers as returning officers.

Jeffery Kuri said it would be a conflict of interest because the managers were already campaigning with current LLG presidents using the K500,000 allocated by the National Government for various projects.

“These funds cannot be used on impact projects during this short period of time as the LLG election is near and we are prepared to pay our nomination fees next Thursday,” he said.

“We want quality and honest people (to conduct a) free, fair and safe election,” he said.

Kuri said council managers were going around with current presidents using public funds to launch projects.

He suggested that council managers be used as returning officers but in other local level governments.
