LLG funding ward projects

THE Namatanai local level government (LLG) in New Ireland has resolved to lock in its internal revenue to fund its ward development projects following financial difficulties experienced at the LLG level.
LLG president Joshua Takin Soi made the undertaking during the LLG’s first assembly sitting last week.
Soi said the LLG was cash strapped and could not implement its ward development projects for this year and had to re-adjust its plans to use its internal revenue to fund this year’s ward development projects next year.
He said by diverting its internal revenue to fund projects next year, this would relieve the burden from the LLG functions.
He stressed that the LLG was also struggling to implement its budget due to a shortage of funds.
“There is no implementation of the LLG budget this year and this is not good enough,” he said.
“Our budget is upside down, meaning that our income is less than our expense and we need to make some drastic adjustments when the administration is swallowing a bigger slice of the budget.”
He said that the preparation for the 2021 budget estimate was now a priority and had to start as soon as possible.
