MOROBE deputy governor and president of the Ongga-Wafa local level government in Markham, Willie Simbisi, has pledged his support to carry out educational awareness in schools in the district with the help of their university students.
He made this commitment during a recent meeting with Markham students from the PNG University of Technology (Unitech) in Lae where he presented a cheque of K5,000 to their association.
The funds would support the students conduct educational awareness in the district’s high schools and secondary schools during school breaks.
Simbisi said students at tertiary institutions were privileged and could contribute to the development of their provinces and country.
“I stand as a leader of this province and, it is my duty to support and invest in quality education for human resources development,” he said.
Simbis said the provincial government was committed to investing in education as captured in the Morobe Kundu Vision 2048.
A similar cheque would be presented to Markham students at UPNG in Port Moresby.
Unitech’s Markham Students Association patron Alex Nona said the cheque presentation followed a commitment Simbisi made last year to support the students’ awareness initiative in their district.
Nona said Markham students had received similar support from local MP Koni Iguan.
He thanked Simbisi on behalf of the association and assured him that the students would carry out the awareness programme well and submit reports to his office.
