Local association gets K2,000 boost

A LOCAL sports development association in Mendi, Southern Highlands, received a helping hand from a public servant recently.
Southstar Sports Development Association (SSDA) accepted a donation of K2,000 worth of building materials on Friday to support its fundraising efforts to build an office building.
Provincial Works manager Junior Kupulu said supporting community groups was a worthy cause which would help people, especially youths.
The non-government organisation plans to set up an office in order to run its community partnership programmes from such as sports development training and health and education programmes for primary and secondary schools in Southern Highlands, Hela and other areas in Highlands. SSDA director Timothy Mako said the association planned to establish a Youth Empowerment Centre to carry out programmes to empower youths.
