A LOCAL firm has published books that it hopes will be used by the Education Department and schools in the country.
Michael John Uglo, of Nilguma-Oiopongi Publications, said they had produced a complete set of the elementary level of grades preparatory, one and two.
The firm produced 19 subject-based reader series, five text books and five activity books for elementary grades.
“We are working on the primary and secondary level books,” he said.
Uglo, who has a background in science and has taught for a number of years at secondary level said: “The aim now in education must be to make our children competitive globally.
“To make our students globally competitive, we have to embark on creativity, innovation and be willing to foster an environment to accept ideas and changes to happen.”
Uglo said his firm was producing the material to help students become globally competent.
He aims to sell the books to schools, the department and parliamentarians who can buy them for schools in their electorates.
He said with enough support he could sell each book for K10 or less.
“Books published outside PNG cost much more.”
Uglo is calling on the Education Department, donor agencies and the national government to support the bigger picture of making our students globally competitive.
