Local firms in LNG project praised

EXXONMOBIL PNG managing director Andrew Barry says he is proud to see local businesses and individuals participate in the country’s first liquefied natural gas project.
He told a supplier engagement seminar last week in Port Moresby that the economic and business benefits the project had on businesses and individuals were notable.
The seminar, hosed by the Institute of Banking and Business Management, in partnership with ExxonMobil PNG, saw businesses involved in the PNG LNG project discuss challenges and opportunities available in the project.
“We have around 2400 people working on the project – nearly eight per cent of them are Papua New Guineans and 20 per cent are women,” he said.
Barry acknowledged efforts of local and international businesses in the delivery of the project “that created an enviable reputation of LNG supplier around the world”.
“This gives us confidence into the future,” Barry said.
