JOURNALISTS from Papua New Guinea and China discussed yesterday how they can promote bilateral relationship through their work.
All-China Journalists Association executive secretary Dongmei Wang said there were a lot of things journalists from both sides could learn from each other.
Wang said they wanted to see a regulation for exchanges between journalists.
“Through the integration of traditional and new media, there is hope to set up more media platforms with good content between the two countries.”
The China Central Television and the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) have partnered to develop programmes called “Today” and “Glamorous PNG”.
NBC managing director Kora Nou said the partnership demonstrated the growing maturity of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The “Today” programme concept was first discussed and developed when Chinese TV officials visited the country earlier this year.
“PNG has always contained a huge population of Chinese descent.
“This Chinese population in PNG has increased exponentially since Independence.
“Therefore, the introduction of the programmes are aimed at catering for our predominately Chinese audience.
“NBC stands ready to further cooperate with CCTV+ and other like-minded media organisations to develop and introduce programmes.”
As the president of the Pacific Islands News Association, he encouraged the Chinese media to consider exploring opportunities in the wider South Pacific.
