Local musician Pr Ben Hakalitz, who is the drummer of the gospel band P2UIF, is planning to create a music school next year in Port Moresby.
Hakalitz is also the patron of Eyrie Music School, which is located at 6-Mile, Port Moresby.
He and director of Eyrie Music School, Nathan Walters, had already talked with principals of some schools to conduct music classes for children.
Hakalitz’s team will run a programme for at least a week in one school and then go to another school. The team will offer this programme to schools at an affordable cost.
If the school keeps up with this programme, it will become part of their curriculum which the school can take over and run.
Hakalitz said the music school would give the students an opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument.
“Some kids have hidden talents and skills in music and may not be good in academic stuff,” he said.
“We want the kids to unveil those musical talents.
“Growing up, there was no music classes in school.
“We see the difficulties.
“That is why we want to bring the music to the kids.”
Meanwhile Hakalitz is setting up an organisation in Bougainville called Bougainville Arts Collective.
It is more like a music school in which kids in villages will learn how to play musical instruments and read music.
