THE Kumul Font, uniquely designed type-faces based on cultural designs of Papua New Guinea launched last Friday at the University of Papua New Guinea is expected to attract international attention.

Founder of the innovation project and arts and design lecturer, Philemon Yalamu encouraged all Papua New Guineans to embrace the use of local fonts instead of the western fonts.

Yalamu said the Kumul fonts packages was now at affordable price nationwide and was aimed reducing the incidence of pirating and duplication copies that was a phenomenon throughout the country.

He said piracy was a big problem in the country and also across the Pacific and that was affecting a lot of industries and business houses resulting in them making losses.

The intentions of the arts or the designers of the products to make profit are defeated due to piracy.

Yalamu said he did not wish to see Kumul fonts experience such a downturn and made a decision to sell packages at affordable prices in the country.

He believes that attractive prices will encourage a lot of people to feel happy to buy the product.

Kumul Font is registered to the International Font Organisation, similar to other fonts that are currently in use worldwide.
