MORE than a hundred people in a village in Western Highlands received certificates on Thursday after attending a two-week small and medium enterprise (SME) training.
The group, comprising 101 men and women of Kamda in Tambul-Nebilyer electorate, went through training on developing ideas, starting and managing small businesses.
The training was facilitated and managed by the SME Corporation (SMEC) through the Kamda Highlands Women and Youth Association.
Some people from Nebilyer also turned up for the training.
Trainer Edward Kepa said the training was to educate people on key areas in business such as budgeting. Kepa said those areas were highlighted because many still did not understand them before starting businesses.
Association chairman Clara Pianga described the training as useful and an opportunity for the participants.
She believed such trainings would change their attitudes and encourage them to plan and focus.
SMEC managing director Petrus Ralda told the participants they were privileged to attend the training.
Ralda said SMEC was focused on extending the training to other districts in the country.
“You do not need a K1,000 to start off a business, all you need is what you have right now with you. You can make something out from the little you have,” he said.
