THE people of Kaupena in Southern Highlands are grateful to the provincial government for the upgrading of their feeder road that was neglected for years.
Governor William Powi who had visited the area last year, made a K300,000 commitment to upgrade the road.
The provincial government was able to provide only K200,000 of the promised amount so some work remains to be done on the 2.5km feeder road.
The Kaupena mission station feeder road had been a nightmare for people who were struggling for many years to access basic government services. Fortunately for the locals, the PNG Bible Church played a crucial role in the provision of health and education services.
Community leader Peter Kema said one of the dilemmas facing PNG today was that the level of development in rural areas has been stagnant for decades.
