THE long-awaited World Boxing Association, Asia, title fight between Papua New Guinea lightweight champion Raka Kauko Jr and Philippine opponent Roldan Aldea is set for April 25 at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
The fight, which is promoted by Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP), was previously organised under different organisation (World Boxing Council) when it was scheduled for last April.
However, the event was delayed due to the Covid-19.
OFP director Maryanne Millie said yesterday that the fight would be presented under World Boxing Association and not under World boxing council as previously announced.
“The fight was originally organised under WBC as the lightweight Asia title fight but due to no vacancy in that category, we switched to a different organisation which is WBA,” she said.
“Kauko and his Philippine opponent will be fighting in a different category which is the super featherweight, 59 kg.”
Millie said Kauko would need to lose a few kilos to meet the required weight.
She challenged him to win the title.
Millie told the PNG champion that OFP and other stakeholders had gone through challenges to make the fight happen.
“Kauko has to win the fight,” she said.
Kauko said he was prepared for anything.
“I’ve been preparing for a very long time and I want to assure you all that this title will not leave our shores,” he said.
