SUMKAR MP and Correctional Service minister Chris Nangoi wants all public servants in the district to look after public assets such as vehicles and buildings.
He made the statement following commitment by his District Development Authority towards funding for new buildings and vehicles for education, health and law and justice sector.
“Public servants have to be mindful that assets such as buildings and vehicles have been funded using public funds and it belongs to the public,” Nangoi said.
“However, it is a norm these days that public assets, especially vehicles, are always misused by government officials, the very people entrusted to take care of it and this has to change,” he said.
Nangoi said if this continues, the last lot of funds would be utilised to other important sectors of development such as the economic sector which will generate revenue and improve the lives of the people.
He presented a K200,000 vehicle to Talidig police at Sumgilbar, funded their police station and staff house refurbishment at a cost of K100,000 and also opened a new health post at Tokain which cost K50,000.
Nangoi said the Sumkar DDA would continue to commit funding to all sectors in the district.
