‘Look after public property’

SOUTHERN Highlanders need to look after public properties such as schools, hospitals and other basic services, police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari says.
Chief Supt Lakari said this attitude of destroying public properties had to stop.
He said Government services and public infrastructure had to be maintained because it was there to benefit the people.
He said a general lack of respect and care was present among the people and had to be addressed or progress and development in the province would be hindered.
“A school will help to educate our children, while health services will treat the sick and we have to feel responsible,” he said.
Chief Supt Lakari said public properties were not just for the people today, but for generations to come.
“We need to see that basic services here are for our children to benefit from and if you destroy them, then who would come to restore it?” he said.
He said there were many public properties and businesses who have been affected in the past years because people were careless.
Chief Supt Lakari said one example was the fence at the Mendi Airport which people kept removing.
He said police patrol in town would continue.
