Look into PNGDF recruitment now

Letters

WHILE we celebrate the 46th Independence anniversary, it’s disappointing to learn about the dismissal of 166 Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) recruits from Goldie training depot because of corrupt practices in the recruitment process.
Officers involved in this should be dismissed from the force because they swore an oath to keep PNG safe, however, their actions said otherwise.
Bribery occurs frequently during recruitment and I am not surprised that the PNGDF personnel at Goldie were able to identify such a large number of ineligible candidates.
Well done to the team at Goldie Barracks for doing the work that was supposed to be done at Murray Barracks by the recruitment team.
The corrupt practices by the PNGDF recruitment team has been going on for ages and we have not seen any changes.
What sort of future are we heading towards?
The Defence minister and PNGDF commander need to take this issue seriously and ensure it is addressed at the highest level.
