Look out for injured suspect: Cop

POLICE in Manus have told the hospitals and health centres in the province to keep an eye out for a wounded man they shot during the weekend’s string of robberies.
They reported three separate armed robberies on Sunday.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said the first occurred at the Lorengau Hospital.
He said six suspects armed with a factory-made point 22 rifle, homemade guns, bush knife and an axe, held up the driver of the hospital vehicle.
Chief Insp Yapu said they threatened him and took the hospital vehicle and drove to ward three, Lorengau town.
“The suspects abandoned the vehicle at ward three and held up another victim and stole a hire vehicle, a Toyota LandCruiser 10-seater with tinted glass from him,” he said. “The culprits threatened him with the firearms and fired a shot in the air and drove off with the vehicle.
“The suspects drove to Lorengau Enterprise Ltd, a shop owned by a Bangladeshi at ward five.
“They held up the manager and the workers and ransacked the shop and stole cash, mobile phones, smokes, flex cards and store goods believed to be of substantial amount. The three suspects escaped through the front door of the shop and exchanged gun fire with police who arrived at the scene.”
Chief Insp Yapu said police wounded one of the suspects in the vehicle but they got away and later abandoned the vehicle and escaped into nearby bushes.
He said the suspects were identified by the store manager and closed circuit television footage.
Chief Insp Yapu said the suspects were local criminal elements from ward six, Cancer Hill and Kolwin.
He urged local leaders and the community to assist in getting the suspects to surrender, otherwise, the police would hunt them down.
Chief Insp Yapu said reinforcements and logistical support would be brought in by the provincial government to capture the suspects.
