CUSTOMARY landowners of Kavieng town have asked the New Ireland provincial administration to pay K539,560 in land compensation owed them.

The national Government had committed in the early 1990s to pay the Bagail people K4.41 million for the use of 441 hectares of traditionally-owned land where the provincial capital of New Ireland province was built on.

Part of this amount has already been paid to the landowners through various projects. The landowners were now calling for the remaining K539,560 to be paid.
