YOUTH activities are being organised without proper coordination, says acting National Youth Commissioner Norit Luio.

Luio said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) in Port Moresby the NYC wanted to play a coordinating role to manage youth activities in the country.

He said it was timely for Unesco to step in with its support so that the necessary plans could be put in place.

He said it had encouraged them to do more on youth programmes.

The Commission and Unesco agreed to work together in reviewing youth policies and develop a forward plan to benefit youths.

Unesco national programme officer for HIV and AIDS education Catherine Rua said talks between the two organisations began in May this year.

She said Unesco normally allocated US$10,000 (K23,000) for youth activities annually but PNG had never taken up its share because of the instability of project coordinators.

“This would be the first time for funding such activity and it is a great opportunity for the funding to be utilised,” she said.

She said the funding was not only for the youth commission but for youth activities.
