MADANG provincial administrator Frank Lau appeared in court yesterday but his matter was adjourned to today for submissions on whether a magistrate in Waigani has jurisdiction to hear a matter allegedly committed in Madang.
“I appreciate that you are here today but I will adjourn for prosecutor to seek instructions from your arresting officer and come prepared with submissions tomorrow whether proceedings should proceed before the Waigani District Court or be sent back to Madang,” Magistrate Albert Daniels told Lau.
He did not proceed with arraignment.
He will have to consider arguments from parties before he proceeds to a ruling.
According to a statement from the commander of Northern Division and acting commander NCD Central assistant commissioner Peter Guinness, Lau was arrested and charged in Port Moresby with fraud.
He was taken to the National Fraud Squad office in Konedobu, where he was charged.
Guinness also said in the statement that Lau, 42, of Kaipale village in Laiagam, Enga was then taken to the Boroko Police Station cells and detained but later released on a K20,000 bail.
