A CATHOLIC church-run school in Madang province is looking forward to improving its look.
For many years this school had been neglected by the authorities, which failed to develop and improve its infrastructure.
Now the board and administration of Halopa Primary School in the north Ambenob LLG of Madang district plans to build a new classroom and a teacher’s house.
School authorities and the board, including the agent of the Catholic church in the area, said they needed K20,000 to start the project.
Agency representative Christopher Larup said the funds for these two projects would come from students’ project fees.
Larup said the school was established by the Catholic church more than 40 years ago.
He said many of its facilities had been built by missionaries and were now in a rundown state.
“Without any assistance from the LLG, district and provincial government, we have been trying our very best with what resources we have to change the look of our school,” Larup said.
He said they had built a classroom and a library at a cost of K10,000 last year
The funds for that project came from project fees paid by students.
Construction work for these two projects is expected to start this June.
Halopa Primary School has a roll of more than 400 students.
