Madang provincial assembly passed more than K300 million budget yesterday during its first sitting of the year.
The K312,434,000 provincial budget comprises of:

  • National Government grants of K254,695,600;
  • 2018 rollover funds of K9,911,900; and,
  • provincial internal revenue of K7,826,500.

Governor Peter Yama said the 2019 budget had three important points. They are:

  • Continuity of service delivery with improvement;
  • growing the local economy through small-to-medium-sized enterprises; and,
  • Support implementation of the medium-term development plan 3 (MTDP3) which runs from 2019 to 2022.

“Madang government, under my leadership, projects the province’s investment programmes under the MTDP3 to cost around K2.5 billion.”
Yama said MTDP3 would be submitted for the assembly to pass soon.
He said the budget intended to efficiently resource implementation of Madang government programmes to link to the Alotau Accord Two and MTDP3. Yama said Madang was one of the growing local economies in the country despite difficult economic times.
