Madang provincial government presented its 2019 budget of K312 million to the Treasurer Charles Abel on Friday.
Governor Peter Yama acknowledged Government for its support in major developments of the province recently announced by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
Yama said the budget consisted of:

  • National grants K254,695,600;
  • rollover funds of K9,911,900; and,
  • Provincial internal revenue of K47,826,500.

He said the focus for the provincial government was to “go rural” and create economic growth through revenue collection.
“The focus areas underpinning this are to ensure continuity but with improvement in recurrent service delivery, to grow our local economy and to
support implementation of the medium-term development plan three (MTDP3),” Yama said.
He said the expenditure priority areas were improving service delivery, funding small-to-medium enterprise and capacity building.
Yama thanked Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for visiting remote Usino-Bundi and Madand Town in just one week to launch several major projects.
“Madang is located in a strategic position to be a big economic player in the country,” he said.
“I’m thankful to be in your team.
“We will work together to make a difference.
“We will do whatever we can do within the medium-term development plan three.”
Abel commended Yama and his provincial administration for presenting their budget.
“We are proud to work with Governor Yama and provincial government,” he said.
