THE Madang government and Ramu NiCo have pledged to work together for the common good of the province and Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd.
Madang Governor Jim Kas and his government delegation met with the president of Ramu NiCo, Wang Jicheng, last Thursday to explore opportunities to enhance a working relationship.
Kas made this visit after returning from China, with Mining Minister Byron Chan and a Government delegation.
Kas said he was convinced with what he saw in China in terms of business and technological advancements.
He said his province could learn from China’s development experience.
Wang’s first secretary Augustine Dunstan said Ramu NiCo was pleased to discuss concerns and ways to work together.
“This is the beginning of a long-time friendship,” Wang said.
He presented a brief overview of Ramu NiCo’s current position and clarified that the production began at a challenging period with load commissioning when the metal price kept depreciating.
Jicheng told the delegation that Ramu NiCo’s production last year reached 95 per cent design capacity, a far better result compared with other similar nickel-mining operations in the world.
“With our common efforts, we can make full use of the Ramu project to make Madang the hub of business and tourism in PNG,” Wang said.
Kas asked for more commitment from China in Madang as he was serious about doing business with Beijing following his recent trip.
