RUGBY union in Papua New Guinea has the potential to produce some of the top players in the world and can help promote and portray a positive image of the country, according to Member for Madang Open and Police Minister Nixon Duban.

“It is such a good prospect and knowing that rugby 7s is now an Olympic sport, I will continue supporting rugby union in Madang,” Duban said.

The Pukpuks put PNG on the map in the 1980s and 1990s with their performances at the Hong Kong 7s.

These comments were made during the Madang Duban Sevens tournament presentation last weekend at the Ron Albert Oval where the Governor Jim Kas made a commitment of K50,000 towards Madang Rugby Union (MARFU).
