Madang police need radios

Letters

ONE of the contributing factors to an increase in crime in Madang is the lack of communication between police officers.
The police radios are not operating and the police vehicles recently donated by local MP and Justice Minister Bryan Kramer do not have police radios.
When a crime is reported, officers broadcast it on the radio to alert themselves so whoever is close to the scene responds to it.
It is a concern for the people of Madang on how quick police respond to crime.
Police cannot respond to every phone call due to network problems.
From research and information collected from police officers, they have been operating without police radios for many years.
They said they were confused when they received information about crimes.
I call on the authorities of Madang to look into this problem and address it.
Kramer, when presenting the vehicles to the police, said he will install radios and cameras in the vehicles but that hasn’t been done yet.
One of those vehicles is already damaged.
When there is lack of communication among police officers, crime rate increases.
The toll free number has not been active lately.
How will the public report crime?
It is good to install police radios in all the vehicles and at police stations so one officer will give command for the officers to respond and attend to crimes quickly.
